1/ Stabilizing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has no economic justification. Everything changes, and so far economic development has been followed by reduced pollution levels. In the long run, we want the pollution to decline towards zero.
2/ The UNFCCC negociation structure is incredibly irrational. Does it make any sense to pretend that China and Swatziland are equal in the discussion ? The Nation-State is dying anyway, its relevance of to the climate policy is much smaller than they say. Most action will happen at the sub-governmental level, and in trans-national economic sectors.
3/ In the grand scheme of things, who really thinks that climate change will be a comparative disadvantage the US and other OECD countries ? Russians will need less fur coats ! It's time to buy land in Siberia.
4/ Carbon capture from the air sets an upper limit to carbon values below 200 USD/tCO2. We have the backstop technology.
